The department has been instrumental in the passing of the National Geospatial Policy in 2022 by the Union Government of India. Quoting the policy notification in the Gazette of India, “The National Geospatial Policy, 2022 (the Policy) is a citizen-centric policy that seeks to strengthen the Geospatial sector to support national development, economic prosperity and a thriving information economy. The Policy builds on conducive environment generated by the “Guidelines for acquiring and producing Geospatial Data and Geospatial Data Services including Maps” dated 15.02.2021 (the Guidelines), issued by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India (GoI).”
