The department has been instrumental in the passing of the National Geospatial Policy in 2022 by the Union Government of India. Quoting the policy notification in the Gazette of India, “The National Geospatial Policy, 2022 (the Policy) is a citizen-centric policy that seeks to strengthen the Geospatial sector to support national development, economic prosperity and a thriving information economy. The Policy builds on conducive environment generated by the “Guidelines for acquiring and producing Geospatial Data and Geospatial Data Services including Maps” dated 15.02.2021 (the Guidelines), issued by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India (GoI).”

MINRO Center was established at IIITB upon the recommendation of Karnataka Knowledge Commission of the Government of Karnataka and funded as part of Innovate Karnataka program of the Department of ITBT, Government of Karnataka.

MINRO’s objective is to be a “best-in-class” Center Of Excellence (COE) in Karnataka for Machine Intelligence and Robotics, involved in fundamental research addressing problems in the Indian context in a collaborative multi-disciplinary environment.

The COE research has been featured in premium publications, conferences and seminars. It is building open-source platforms & data sources that can be leveraged by startups & industry to commercialize research for real-world deployment.

Mphasis in partnership with the International Institute of Technology Bangalore (IIITB) set up a Center of Excellence (CoE), for cognitive computing, to leverage cognitive computing technology to solve problems related to education, enterprise and accessibility. Technology has the potential to enable disruptive solutions in accessibility for PwDs, a key focus area of the CoE. The Center developed algorithms to enable real-time synthesis of the Indian language, helping the deaf community to communicate more effectively.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the space agency of India. The organisation is involved in science, engineering and technology to harvest the benefits of outer space for India and mankind. ISRO is a major constituent of the Department of Space (DOS), Government of India. The department executes the Indian Space Programme primarily through various Centres or units within ISRO.

ISRO started the RESPOND (Sponsored Research) programme in the 1970s, with the objective of encouraging academia to participate and contribute in various Space related research activities. Under RESPOND, projects are taken up by Universities/Academic Institutions in the areas of relevance to the Space Programme. ISRO has evolved the RESPOND programme through which necessary financial and technical support is provided to academia in India for conducting research and development activities related to Space Science, Space Technology and Space Applications. This is the flagship programme of ISRO to promote the extra-mural research in emerging areas of Space at Academia. 

InGARSS 2023 is supported through the RESPOND programme of ISRO.


National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) is one of the primary centres of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space (DOS). NRSC  has the mandate for establishment of ground stations for receiving satellite data, generation of data products, dissemination to the users, development of techniques for remote sensing applications including disaster management support, geospatial services for good governance and capacity building for professionals, faculty and students.


GalaxEye is a Space-Tech start-up building the world’s first multi-sensor earth observation satellite. This is powered by an advanced constellation of Earth Observation Satellites, equipped with their unique “Drishti Sensor”, having sensing capabilities of Radar and Optical Spectra from the same platform. This enables businesses and governments to make all-time all-weather data-driven decisions based on insights from satellite imagery. Founded in 2021, GalaxEye spun out of team Avishkar Hyperloop of Indian Institute of Technology Madras.


IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation (IITTNiF) is a not-for-profit Section-8 company set up to host the Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) in Positioning and Precision Technology (PPT) in the domain of Positioning, Navigation and Timing. The TIH is funded by the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), Department of Science and Technology (DST), India. The Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) on PPT aims to provide a unique platform for researchers, industries, stakeholders and end-users across multiple disciplines. The TIH on PPT will contribute to many Government of India initiatives such as Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, and Start-up Ecosystem making India self-reliant in PPT.

The primary objectives of the Hub in PPT are:
